Every company does things differently when it comes to university recruiting. It can be confusing. (We understand. We’ve all been there.) That’s why we’ve created this page of FAQs to help you know what to expect when we come to town.
Q. How often do recruiters visit campuses?
A. Every fall, ConocoPhillips recruiters visit select campuses across the U.S. to meet and interview students. You can find our recruiters at career fairs, information sessions, speaking in your classrooms and engaging with various student organizations. See our university recruitment calendar to learn when we’ll be on your campus.
Q. What determines a visit?
A. The campuses visited are determined by each business function’s need, the quality of the programs offered by the schools, and the schools’ geographic proximity to company facilities.
Q. How do I know what jobs are available?
A. Job descriptions for summer internships will be posted within each designated school’s career centers by August of the preceding year.
Q. How do I apply?
A. To apply for an internship or full-time position, you can (1) register for an interview through your university career center and (2) apply online at our company website here.
Q. What are the criteria for interview selection?
A. The criteria for interview selection will vary by position. This information will be posted in the job description.
Q. How can I meet members of the University Recruiting Team?
A. ConocoPhillips recruiters are on campus around September for career fairs, where they meet students and answer general questions. They return to campus in late September/early October to host company information night sessions and conduct interviews with previously selected students. Keep an eye on activities hosted by your campus student organizations – our recruiters also attend a variety of those meetings to share their experiences and meet students.
Q. When will I know if I’m selected for an internship or full-time opportunity?
A. Generally, students will be informed of whether or not they have an internship or full-time offer for the following summer from ConocoPhillips during the months of October, November and December.
Q. What is the minimum GPA requirement for interns?
A. Each function is given the opportunity to set their own GPA requirements when selecting candidates for intern and full-time position. Academic performance is an important indicator of future success at ConocoPhillips, however, it is not the only indicator of success. As recruiters, it is our job to evaluate each candidate in terms of what they may contribute to ConocoPhillips as a potential team member. With that, teamwork, ability to communicate, diversity of thought and work experience as just as important to consider as GPA when evaluating candidates. We don’t just hire the GPA, we hire the person who earned it.
Q. Will I be offered a full-time positions at the end of my internship?
A. Each function will work with their respective organization’s leaders to determine projected full time staffing needs and will fill those positions, first, with the existing intern pool. Not all interns will receive an offer to return as a full time employee. As with all hiring decisions, full time offers will be based two things: organizational need and individual performance.
