Job Summary

ConocoPhillips’ global portfolio of LNG assets includes ownership in LNG JV projects in Qatar and Australia, LNG supply agreements in the US and in Mexico, long term regasification capacity in Europe in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium and a suite of long terms sales agreements.

The Global LNG Trading & Origination team is tasked to optimise our global equity LNG portfolio and support our Joint Venture projects. Our core activities include developing new markets and sales agreements to support current and future LNG developments, sourcing new LNG supplies, originating receiving terminal usage rights and term sales. The Trading team is tasked specifically with balancing and optimising our LNG portfolio to create additional value. In addition, we market excess volumes for our JV in Australia and provide negotiation support. The team also provides LNG-related decision support to our corporate headquarters in Houston and global business units involved in the LNG value chain.

Based in London, the Senior LNG Trader will work closely with our London team and our Singapore and Houston desks to grow our LNG trading business and market presence. The successful candidate will have a focus on scaling up physical activity to support the development of a large-scale dynamic trading operation. They will develop trading relationships within the EMEA region, originate trade opportunities, and execute physical trades which align with the strategy of the organisation.

Position Overview

  • Be the focal point of contact for ConocoPhillips for short term and structured trading within the EMEA region
  • Originate and execute physical LNG trades which support the growth goals of ConocoPhillips
  • Be responsible for the entire life-cycle of each trade
  • Work with, provide guidance to and support the development of other LNG traders
  • Manage risk limits and ensure all trading activities follow internal risk governance policies and trade reporting requirements
  • Consolidate any paper hedging requirements across the global team and execute associated transactions
  • Optimise assets and contracts within the LNG portfolio

Competency Requirements

Basic Requirements

  • Considerable experience within the LNG trading industry
  • Demonstrable experience as a Senior LNG trader
  • Experience originating, managing and optimising regassification capacity in Europe
  • Experience in hedging and other risk management strategies
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a profitable LNG trading portfolio
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the value drivers of LNG transactions
  • Track record of executing LNG transaction along the entire value chain
  • Team player with a collaborative and inclusive mindset
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (e.g. engineering and numerate degrees in science, economics, finance, or business)

Preferred Skill and Experience

  • Previous experience expanding an LNG desk
  • Previous experience with LNG portfolio optimisation models and concepts
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods and financial theories
