We are the largest owner in the U.S. Lower 48 with 10.4 million net acres, much of it held by production that gives access to scalable, low-cost-of-supply inventory that can generate substantial future production growth.
We also operate significant oil producing assets in Alaska and Canada.
Our large onshore position of the Lower 48 segment is comprised of three regions covering the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent and Rockies. Current major focus areas include the Eagle Ford, Bakken and Permian. We also have other opportunities to increase our exploration areas across the Lower 48.
Our experts in energy management and energy commerce play a pivotal role in upgrading and building our portfolio in targeted locations. We encourage candidates with land management experience in the energy industry to maximize their knowledge and potential with us.

What we do
Our onshore portfolio includes strong long-term producing assets in the U.S. Lower 48, Alaska and Canada. Land Management acquires mineral asset rights, maintains the assets (contractual requirements) and maximizes value through joint ventures, farm-outs, and more on behalf of ConocoPhillips.
How we do it
We’re committed to a high standard of performance, but not at all costs. Our SPIRIT Values — Safety, People, Integrity, Responsibility, Innovation and Teamwork — are at the core of everything we do. We stake our reputation on being accountable to our stakeholders, communities and each other.
Who we’re looking for
We seek performance-driven and highly accountable individuals with a strong background in business or law and focusing on energy management or energy commerce. Relevant skills include negotiation, problem solving, a focus on results, and the ability to multitask. Candidates also should have a strong command of oral and written communication skills, a dedication to self-improvement, and the highest of ethical standards. Based on historical experience, we believe that Lower 48 Land candidates who have one or more internships with ConocoPhillips are able to quickly impact the business upon graduation.
Your contribution
Seize opportunities to learn relevant E&P industry specific negotiation and contract analysis techniques. Participate in a comprehensive training program designed to provide consistency and excellence. Be assigned to a business unit and placed under the guidance of an experienced Land mentor who guides training in field work, technical tasks, company protocol, people skills and team building.
Contribute to overall business goals and provide the foundation for career development through work assignments in the first years.
- Year One: During the first year of development, new employees may spend time working in courthouses learning to analyze land title ownership records and assisting our field Land brokers with negotiations pertaining to mineral leases, surface rights and pipeline right-of-way acquisitions. They may also work directly with experienced Land professionals learning the basic skills needed to succeed. The use of and training on our mapping and land systems play an important part of the learning process during the first year.
- Year Two: In year two, if not sooner, work with an asset team on projects receiving hands-on experience executing Land’s responsibilities necessary to get wells drilled and into production; and, enhance knowledge of project economic analysis and risk assessment.
- Year Three: Work on more complex Land-related projects, such as trades, joint ventures, farm-outs and more, continuing the development toward an advanced Land skillset and working to sharpen leadership and teamwork skills.
How you can grow
Our goal is to provide early career Land professionals with the best training and guidance available in the industry. During the training program, the amount unsupervised and independent work will increase in years two and three, along with the level of complexity of tasks assigned. This program provides a formal and comprehensive structure to build and evaluate the technical and professional skills all Land professionals need at ConocoPhillips.
Beyond early years, we encourage continuous learning for all employees. Internal and external courses, field trips and e-learning opportunities are available to all Land employees throughout their careers.
