Description

The Senior Consultant, Accounting Policy and Transactions, Controllers will participate as an integral team member in the Accounting Policy and Transaction group within the Company’s Corporate Controllers organization.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Review of new or updated U.S. accounting standards, assess the impact, and develop implementation plans, as appropriate
  • Provide guidance and consultation to business unit and staff group contacts and Finance management on unusual transactions or situations to ensure accounting and reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, company accounting policies and procedures, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) guidelines
  • Review contracts, structured deals and other agreements to assess and provide guidance on the accounting impacts
  • Prepare or assist in preparing certain financial statement footnotes
  • Research complex technical accounting issues and transactions and determine proper accounting treatment
  • Provide training to business unit and staff department contacts and optimally communicate accounting rules
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for multiple technical accounting policy topical areas
  • Update company accounting policy manual as appropriate
  • Provide opportunity to be challenged and contribute in a fast-paced environment
  • Present accounting and reporting related conclusions to senior management

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Economics, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • 5 or more years of accounting experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP or U.S. GAAP)

Preferred:

  • MS/MBA degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Big 4 experience with significant exposure to U.S. listed public company audits
  • Advanced knowledge of SEC reporting
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to review and resolve complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including experience in communicating complex accounting interpretations to senior management
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to network and communicate globally
  • Energy industry exposure, preferably in exploration and production
  • Ability to progress multiple tasks concurrently and work independently
  • Understands how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business
  • Analyzes stakeholder needs, global, political, and market trends to understand how they shape the future and impact our business results
  • Invites dialogue to gain a shared understanding and influences with confidence to drive performance and achieve business results
  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
