Description:

Reporting directly to the HS Supervisor, the Wells HS Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and provision of day-to-day and medium-term Health, Safety and Environmental support to drilling and completions operations.

Fundamental responsibilities include:

  • Assists with the development and implementation of all HSE programs.
  • Promotes and ensures CPC’s Life Saving Rules and Process Safety Fundamentals are being discussed, followed, and understood.
  • Leads investigations / Learning teams for HSE related incidents.
  • Conducts follow-up assessments on Near Misses / Hazard ID’s & BBS reporting systems.
  • Ensures a high degree of visibility during daily activities, providing front line safety coaching and assistance.

The Wells HS Coordinator is expected to have a working knowledge across all facets of Health, Safety & Environmental issues and provide support to the Field Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and improve HSE performance in alignment with organizational learning (High Reliability Organization) principles.

This is a rotational (14/14) position working at the Surmont asset in Anzac, Alberta.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to line management on health, safety and environment compliance, the HSE management system and the interpretation of HSE legislation.
  • Conduct field level HSE assurance to ensure compliance with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System.
  • Participate in onsite Safety meetings by developing content and delivering the HSE messaging during the meetings.
  • Contractor engagement with onsite third-party contractors, attending kick off meetings, liaising with Contractor HSE and Field Leadership representatives.
  • Demonstrate active safety leadership at the work face, build trust with workforce and understand how work is done.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of safety and process hazards of various stages of drilling and completions activities.
  • Participate in/provide guidance on risk assessments during work planning, on proposals for changes and when evaluating incidents and near miss events.
  • Engage with leaders and workers in support of CPC’s Learning Organization (HRO) concepts and support teams with their implementation strategies. 
  • Lead learning activities in pre-emptive work planning or post-incident investigations. 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of health and safety experience – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related drilling and completions oilfield experience - required.
  • Relevant Industry Certification (CRSP, CRST, CSP, OHST, CHST) – preferred.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions.
