Description:

We are seeking a seasoned and dedicated Senior Policy Advisor to lead our organization's efforts in developing and advocating for competitive and sustainable energy policies. The Senior Policy Advisor will play a critical role in analyzing energy policy issues, crafting innovative policy solutions, and influencing regulatory frameworks to foster a competitive and resilient investment environment. This position requires strong skills in policy analysis, writing, critical thinking, facilitation, communication, and strategic planning, along with a deep understanding of energy, government, and policy dynamics.

Extensive experience in public policy and engagement with governments is essential. With direct experience in the oil and gas industry and expertise and experience in one or more of the following policy areas is preferred: finance, economics, climate, land, social, and biodiversity.


Responsibilities:

  • Play a critical role in the development and implementation of comprehensive energy policy advocacy strategies aligned with our organization's mission, goals, and values.
  • Evaluate the potential impacts of proposed energy policies across a range of subject matter areas on our organization and stakeholders and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Monitor, track, and communicate legislative and regulatory developments at local, regional, and national levels relevant to the organization's interests.
  • Analyze and communication proposed policies, regulations, and legislation to assess potential impacts on the organization and to support policy issue management and develop strategic policy recommendations.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of energy policy developments, including legislation, regulations, market trends, and technological advancements.
  • Support the development of the organization's positions and priorities with government officials, policymakers, and regulatory agencies through written submissions, and direct lobbying efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and industry experts to identify opportunities for policy innovation, stakeholder engagement, and coalition building to advance environmental objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, regulatory agencies, environmental organizations, and industry associations.
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations, written reports, and other communication materials to effectively communicate our organization's positions, priorities, and policy recommendations on energy and environmental issues.
  • Provide guidance, and support to junior staff members, fostering their professional development and contributing to the overall success of the team.
  • Stay informed about emerging energy and environmental technologies, market trends, and best practices, and incorporate relevant insights into our policy advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and coordinate of key messages and speaking points for executive presentations and strategic event participation.
  • Support the development and execution of executive engagements with government officials and influencers, including agenda and schedule management, and the development and coordination of briefing notes for government, industry, and business association engagements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in energy policy, environmental studies, public policy, economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy policy analysis, advocacy, or a related role, with demonstrated expertise in a specific area of energy policy (e.g., land, social, biodiversity, climate.)
  • Strong understanding of energy issue dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and principles, with a track record of influencing policy outcomes.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop innovative policy solutions that balance environmental, economic, and social objectives.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively in written and verbal formats.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all aspects of the job.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions.
