Job Summary

Employees in the ConocoPhillips Tax group will typically begin their career in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Job description and responsibilities will vary depending on the first job assignment. You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program that is designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement.

The Tax Analyst is a member of an integrated technical team which partners with functions across the company and applies tax expertise to follow ConocoPhillips’ U.S. income tax and ASC 740 reporting requirements for the company’s operations.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

Providing tax analysis and decision support to operations and management. Typical duties could include fulfillment of the U.S. income tax reporting requirements, research, interpretation and application of the U.S. income tax technical authority, accumulation analysis and processing of financial accounting data to prepare tax returns, assisting in the production of tax forecasts, analysis of information used to align with ASC 740 for various book to tax adjustments, or assisting in preparing responses to IRS inquiries.

During your first year, you will attend the Finance Onboarding Program which is crafted to acclimate new hires to the company and culture. The program consists of short training sessions led by experienced Finance professionals within the company, introduces concepts of upstream oil and gas operations, provides insight to the differentiating strategy of ConocoPhillips. The curriculum provides new hires with an overview of career development concepts and early career training and seeks to promote a team environment and establish early networks.

After a minimum of one year of experience in a Finance position, you will be eligible to self-nominate for the Employee Development Program. This program is crafted to provide the participant a deeper understanding and knowledge of ConocoPhillips and the energy industry and help you accelerate development of skills in informal leadership, communication/knowledge sharing, change management, and networking/teambuilding. Exposure to emerging technology and the innovation life cycle is another critical component of the program.

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution
  • Master's Degree in Accounting with an emphasis in Taxation or Finance or foreign equivalent
  • Current level in college: Graduate Student
  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2024 through Spring/Fall 2025

Preferred:

  • 3+ hours of Accounting
  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Develops strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
  • Demonstrates taking ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems, holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business
  • Demonstrates ability to use innovative tools and/or thinking to solve problems or improve processes
