Job Summary

ConocoPhillips is one of the world’s largest independent E&P companies based on production and proved reserves. The ConocoPhillips Europe Commercial Office is based in Angel Court in the heart of the City of London, and is actively involved in the marketing and trading of crude oil, NGLs, natural gas and LNG.

As a member of the Commercial Finance team, the Lead Trade Accountant will be primarily responsible for ensuring realised physical and financial trades are accurately accounted for and settled in a timely manner. This role plays a pivotal part in upholding the company's financial integrity and supporting its commercial operations.

Position Overview

Primary Role Objectives

  • Oversee and coordinate month-end accounting close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Ensure all procedures are executed and documented in compliance with SOX control standards
  • Perform monthly revenue accounting journals in SAP for gas, crude, LNG, and emissions trading activities
  • Responsible for ensuring that the settlement process for all commodities is performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage electronic and paper gas trade confirmation processes
  • Perform daily review of reconciliation between trade capture system and clearing broker statements for exchange traded derivatives
  • Perform trade reporting process to regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with REMIT and EMIR regulations
  • Manage UK and EU Emission registry deliveries
  • Compile and present monthly financial results and analyses to senior management
  • Prepare and submit monthly cashflow statement to Treasury
  • Manage CVA volume reporting process
  • Collaborate with the Senior Accountant to review and update SOX control documentation
  • Provide audit support to the Senior Accountant
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as required to support business objective

Competency Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Demonstrable experience in commodity trade accounting (preferably in energy trading)
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated
