Job Summary

Teesside Operations

The ConocoPhillips Norsea Terminal, located in Teesside at the mouth of the river Tees, is a crude oil reception, processing, storage, and trans-shipment installation. The terminal also fractionates natural gas liquids into ethane, propane, and butane. 

The terminal’s success is built on its high performing workforce and can provide opportunities throughout your career to progress and continually develop. With ongoing production from Ekofisk and Eldfisk, other redeveloped fields and new exploration projects in the works, the future looks bright as we prepare for a lifetime to 2050.

Working within the Terminal Capital Projects team and reporting to the Project Manager of the forthcoming Ethane 2 Power Project. The role will be responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and timely completion of the construction scope of work for the project, including team assembly, constructability reviews, sub-contractor selection, mobilisation of personnel, management of fabrication, mechanical completion, and preparation for, and management of commissioning prior to beneficial operation.

The ideal candidate will hold a minimum BSc in Engineering or Construction Management and have significant and demonstrable experience of supporting the delivery of major capital projects within the oil, gas or other regulated industry.

The position is offered on a fixed-term staff contract, expected duration of two years.

Position Overview

Primary Role Objectives

  • Ensure that Company HSE&Q policies and procedures are adhered to in all phases of the work
  • Co-author and implement site Safety Management System, deliver on pre-agreed site and project HSE&Q targets for Company and contractor staff
  • Ensure the construction and mechanical completion activities are monitored and assessed as per the requirements of the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and ECPMS
  • Produce the Construction Execution Plan, which includes constructability review plan, construction execution strategy, construction site management plan, organization and staffing throughout onshore completion
  • Influence design engineering work to ensure all objects are arranged and designed for efficient prefabrication, handling/lifting, assembly, mechanical completion, testing, pre-commissioning and start up
  • Establish and maintain an organisation and a manpower plan (MPP) based on EPC and other contractors’ schedules, recruit construction team personnel according to approved MPP
  • Ensure EPC and other contractors’ workforce is qualified and adequate through assessment of proposed sub-contractors. Assist in induction and training as required
  • Interface with Engineering, Transportation and Installation and other Groups, in particular, on all required engineering details related to construction
  • Provide input to Project Risk Register and manage risk assigned to the construction team
  • Coordinate Marine Warranty Survey activities for load-out and sea-fastening activities where appropriate.
  • Participate in bid evaluation work for primary construction contracts.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Site QC Management Systems.
  • Responsible for review and approval of contractor’s fabrication schedule and planning basis (norms)
  • Specify and negotiate progress recovery measures with contractors as appropriate.
  • Monitor prospective technical and commercial changes within the contract and verify the authenticity of contractor requests for change orders
  • Responsible for quality assurance and verification of all on-site contractor change requests and claims
  • Coordinate and manage all aspects related to post construction activities including site completions, pre commissioning and start up activities

Skills, Experience & Competencies

  • BSc in Engineering or Construction Management (Less formal education may be compensated with documented relevant experience)
  • Significant and demonstrable experience of major international oil/gas projects or similar
  • Extensive relevant fabrication site management experience
  • Working knowledge of onshore engineering & construction codes & standards
  • Experience of and aptitude for working in a diverse cultural environment
