Job Summary

Join the ConocoPhillips Australia Production Team in the position of Operations Technician Production.

Position Overview

ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.

About the role

Based on Curtis Island and reporting to the Operations Superintendent you will be responsible for, but not limited to, executing both scheduled and reactive operational tasks across various focal areas.

Working under the guidance of the Operations Superintendent, you will collaborate to troubleshoot technical issues, maintain process optimisation, and uphold high standards of safety and performance. Your responsibilities will include facility surveillance, defect reporting, and assisting with shutdowns and rate reduction events. This role requires a continuous shift roster consisting of days and nights.

This role will:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled operational tasks, contributing to best practices and continuous improvement while maintaining multi-skilled competencies for shift flexibility.
  • Work closely with peers and the Operations Superintendent to resolve technical issues, support team development, and ensure effective shift handovers.
  • Monitor and optimise facility processes, report equipment defects, and ensure compliance with operational guidelines and procedures.
  • Lead or assist in planning and executing key operational events such as rate reductions and shutdowns, including safe systems of work and documentation management.
  • Promote HSE culture, maintain emergency response readiness, and take ownership of facility housekeeping standards.

About you

In this dynamic role, you will support operational excellence by maintaining a broad skill set, ensuring compliance with procedures, and contributing to cost-effective operations. Success in the position relies on a strong commitment to teamwork, emergency response readiness, and maintaining high standards of facility housekeeping.


You bring a proactive and adaptable approach, consistently delivering safe and high-quality outcomes ideally from heavy industrial process operations, including LNG, Hydrocarbon Production and Refining, Petrochemical, Power Generation or Minerals Processing. With strong communication and decision-making skills, you collaborate effectively with peers and leaders, troubleshoot issues confidently, and foster a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement.

You will also bring to the role:

  • Cultural alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values
  • Distributed Control System (DCS) experience
  • Education / Experience minimum Year 10 or above in the Australian Education System or equivalent in any other recognised system 
  • Ability to work 24/7 permanent rotating shift roster
  • Basic computing skills, including SAP
